Sea Change Varietals
A GUIDE TO OUR VARIETALS AND BLENDS - CHOSEN ESPECIALLY FOR YOU
Sea Change was created to give people the opportunity to choose a wine that helps protect our environment - especially our incredible oceans and sea life.
Above all, though, we hope that everyone who sips on a glass of Sea Change wine, whether it be our Provence Rosé or Malbec, will love it, share it, and spread the message further.
Awards & Vivino Ratings
Our wines have won a number of incredible awards since our launch. We also show the "Vivino" ratings on our shop page.
Vivino uses a 5-star system based on the opinions of millions of wine lovers who have bought and tasted the wines you’re considering. Right now, the average Vivino rating is 3.6. A rating above 4.5 means you’ve found something truly rare and special - like our Provence Rosé!
WINE VARIETALS & BLENDS
A varietal describes a wine that’s made from just one grape variety. The name of that varietal is typically displayed on that label.Â
Grape varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Merlot are well known. But there are many, many other varietals that are used in wine production, including names like Cinsault, Verdejo, Negroamaro.
Some varietals are used to make "single varietal" wines and others are more frequently found within "blends" (where multiple grape types are combined to give a particular taste and feel on the tongue).
Wines such as Provence Rosé, Champagne or Prosecco Rosé, are good examples of blends made from multiple grape varietals.Â
Our blog post comparing Sea Change Provence Rosé with Whispering Angel, for example, highlights how two wines of the same type can taste different depending on the grape blend, as well as the climate, soil and production methods.
At Sea Change Wine we offer both varietals and blends that you will already know and love - and others like Negroamaro that may be less familiar, but taste simply delicious.
THE REDS
NEGROAMARO
Negroamaro is a dark-skinned grape, typically from the Puglia region in southern Italy. The younger the grape, the lighter the appearance of the wine.
After a few years, however, the grape graduates to a darker red. Our 2019 Negroamaro originates from the south-eastern corner of Italy. It's bursting with red fruit and sunshine and has a velvety feel.
Because of the soft tannins and smooth lingering finish, it’s an easy drinker.
BOBAL
We chose Bobal as our first organic red as we loved it from the moment we tasted it. This organic red from sun-soaked Valencia balances intensity with the vibrant flavours of red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry, and blackcurrant.
With a deep ruby colour, this wine is full-bodied with a beautiful long finish that lingers after the last mouthful, and may leave you reaching for another bottle! Our recommendation - never buy just one bottle - you may regret it!
MERLOT
Merlot is a classic red wine that’s known for its fruity flavours and soft finish. Due to the smooth texture and silky tannins it’s a perfect starter wine.
Whether you’re having a dinner party or a summer barbeque, or you just fancy a rich, juicy red, our Merlot is the perfect red wine choice. Crammed with flavours of delicious summer fruits and hints of green pepper on the nose, it pairs well with French and Italian food - or a classic English roast!
MALBEC
Known for its dark grape, Malbec is suited for those who prefer something full-bodied. Infused with the aromas of indulgent black fruits, hints of spice, and floral violet, our Malbec is a wonderful representation of this enigmatic grape variety.
MONTEPULCIANO
Bright red fruit and fresh summer berries are complimented perfectly with soft, velvety tannins making our Sea Change Montepulciano D’Abruzzo a delight to drink.
Great as a summer red or winter warmer, Sea Change Montepulciano can be enjoyed all year round.Â
THE WHITES
CHARDONNAY
Chardonnay is one of the most recognisable and popular white wines. It’s got a reputation for being a dry, medium-bodied white. It's also extremely versatile, with a wide range of tastes and aromas, depending on where it is grown and how it is produced.
Our prize-winning Italian Chardonnay is unoaked, making it vibrant, zesty and full of flavour. It's the perfect summer drink for those that love a crisp, dry glass of white wine.
NEW! We recently added an organic Spanish Chardonnay to our range. This wine is modern Spain at its best – using traditional, sustainable growing and harvesting methods to produce a contemporary organic wine which is dry and light with fresh flavours, a wonderful accompaniment to creamy seafood dishes.
SAUVIGNON BLANC
Sauvignon Blanc is one of the world’s most popular white wines and with its beautiful, instantly recognisable aromatic notes, it’s easy to see why.
Our Whale label Sauvignon Blanc hails from France, the traditional home of this grape variety, and is characterised by aromatic green citrus and grapefruit notes. It offers a zesty yet balanced structure and layers of green fruits like gooseberry and lime.
From the New World, we are delighted to introduce our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, part of our premium Sea Horse range. Opulent and expressive, it represents the very best Marlborough has to offer.
PINOT GRIGIO
This Italian classic is crisp, refreshing, and bursting with citrus zest.
This fun and flavoursome crowd-pleaser is the perfect all-rounder, great on its own or to eat with light summer dishes, nibbles or a picnic. It's the ideal lunchtime wine for a gorgeous sunny day - but tastes equally good in front of a film on a rainy English summer evening!
RIESLING
Our take on this German classic is a dry wine bursting with ripe fruit and zingy acidity. It's wonderfully complex but exquisitely balanced and does a wonderful job of representing everything that we love from this underrated grape variety.
Hints of honeysuckle, orange blossom, mandarins, lime and green apple give this lesser-known wine a mouth-watering acidity.
THE PINKS
ROSÉ
Our eco-friendly rosé, made from Syrah (Shiraz) grapes, is your perfect tipple for a warm summer’s evening.
Best served chilled with light dishes such as salads and seafood, or on its own, it tastes of strawberries and watermelons - a delicious fruity treat.
PINOT GRIGIO ROSÉ
For something easy to drink on a hot summer's day, look no further than our Pinot Grigio Rosé. From the north-eastern Veneto region of Italy (a Pinot Grigio powerhouse), our Pinot Grigio Rosé is wonderfully refreshing and packed with rich summer fruit that is balanced out by delicate floral notes.Â
PROVENCE ROSÉ
If you are after a bit of French luxury, look no further than our elegant Provence Rosé.
Hailing from the lavender hills of Provence, this pale pink rosé is a premium wine, perfectly balanced with a hint of zesty grapefruit, delicate white peach, and tropical pineapple flavours.
Also available as a limited edition magnum - it could be just the thing if you are planning a summer party.
PROSECCO ROSÉ
Prosecco Rosé is the ultimate celebration drink. Perfect for summer weddings or garden parties, our Prosecco Rosé offers delicate aromas of summer berries complimented by a gentle taste profile and fine, streaming bubbles. It’s delicious and easy to drink, yet the soft bubble and pale pink colour add an extra layer of pizzazz that you just don't get from a classic white Prosecco.
